According to Truecaller (caller ID service), the number of phone calls that could be described as spam increased in 2018, even three times, compared to 2017. However, regardless of global growth, in some countries, the number of spam calls is at least reduced.
One of these countries is the USA. She ranks second in the list, in the year 2018, she was eight. Truecaller users received on average 17 unwanted phone calls per month, a decrease from 2017 for four calls per month. The largest number of such calls referred to the sale of insurance or attempts to collect debts.
This reduction was mostly contributed by the state. The Federal Trade Commission passed several laws, while the Federal Communications Commission considered different regulations to reduce the number of spam calls. In one case, a fine of $ 82 million was levied.
Brazil is ranked first in this list. According to the same research, the average user receives as many as 37 spam calls per month. These are the most common calls by telecom operators and calls regarding elections. Brazil took over this unscrupulous position from India, which fell to second place, with a 1.5% drop in spam calls compared to 2017.
The total number of spam calls received by Truecaller users is 17.7 billion (from January to October 2018). Spam calls were sampled by users, or registered by the automated algorithm. But since these are only Truecaller users, it's clear that the total number of spam is far greater. After all, another report, from the service that is used to block unwanted calls (YouMail), indicates that the number of spam calls in the US exceeded 28.5 billion in the first eight months. All this points to a huge problem with unwanted calls, and that it's a small chance that we will get rid of them in the upcoming period.
