Yesterday, February 20, Microsoft made a new Office application available to Windows 10 users. It replaces the My Office application that currently exists and is designed to be much more useful to all Office users.
Basically, it’s a hub for launching newer documents, accessing Office desktop applications, or simply finding free web versions of Office. This is a free application that will be preinstalled on Windows 10 and you do not need the Office 365 subscription to use it.
The existing My Office application has many of these features, but the new Office application places a focus on free online versions of Office if you are not an Office 365 subscriber. This is something Microsoft struggled to promote, and many consumers simply do not know that office.com exists and that Microsoft has free online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Numerous users also assume that Office simply comes in as part of Windows, so the renaming of this application to Office and online versions of Office applications will certainly help.
This new Office application also includes instructions, as well as tips and tricks for various Microsoft applications and services. Microsoft also allows IT administrators to customize the Office application to enable businesses to brand and enable access to third-party applications and Microsoft Search. You can download the new Office app from the Microsoft Store, and it will become available to existing users of Windows 10 in the coming weeks.
