When the next-generation gaming console is mentioned, the next versions of the Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo console are coming to mind. However, if you believe Jan Belo, CEO of Slightly Mad Studios, it will be a console called Mad Box.
According to him, Mad Box will be the most powerful console ever made. It will be capable of playing in 4K resolution of ordinary and VR games, with 120 fps (60 fps per eye), and will support all popular VR helmets. Bel also introduced the design of this console – it's a upright PC-like case, with aggressive LED backlighting, which forms a stylized letter of M. As this is just the first designer's solution, Bel admitted that it would probably be stylishly thinner up to appear on the market, and that it is likely to be smaller in size than it is now, to make it easier to carry.
So far, there are not many other information about this console, either when it comes to specifications, or when it will be on the market. The only thing that has been confirmed is that Slightly Mad Studios already has several investors who have offered enough funds to bring the project to its final status – mass production and market launch.
As for the software, Mad Box will not have exclusive titles, but the platform will be open to everyone – developers will get all the necessary game development tools for free. Since today's console market is pretty closed and there are only a few competitors, every new "player" who has the chance to shake it is welcome and we can say that we are eager to see Mad Box at work.
