Boeing carried out the first test flight of a prototype of a flying car that will, according to them, introduce a revolution in urban traffic and reduce city crowds. For some time now, this company has been considering the production of a small, autonomous flying vehicle capable of vertical landing and landing.
This flying vehicle is 9 meters long and represents a combination of helicopters, drones and aircraft with fixed wings. The first test flight lasted only one minute and concerned the vertical takeoff and soft landing of the aircraft. Boeing announces that this aircraft will be a revolution in the world of transportation, primarily because it is an autonomous vehicle.
To make this possible, in parallel with the development of this Boeing, together with the launch of SparkCognition and the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States, it is working to develop a system for monitoring and managing traffic in a “three-dimensional highway”, but also to create regulations that will allow autonomous vehicles to fly safely and safely in the vicinity of buildings.
In order to accelerate the development of autonomous flying vehicles, Boeing acquired Aurora Flight Sciences last year. Through it, this company is also participating in the UberAIR project, Uber’s commercial airline service that will be able to order via a smartphone, which is planned to be activated in the middle of this next decade.
With its vehicle, Boeing plans to provide autonomy of about 80 km, and two versions of vehicles are being developed – for the transport of two and four people. Also, “in-game” is also a version that will serve to download packages, whose maximum capacity will be about 230 kg.
